The world around us makes a big deal about Christmas — the decorations, the countdowns, the gifts, and the excitement for children. But as Muslims, we have something special too: Eid ✨
We Have Eid. Let’s Make It a Big Deal.
One month until Eid… again. Eid is our celebration. Our joy after devotion. Our day of gratitude, family, and reward from Allah. So let’s make it a big deal in our homes.
Start talking about it now. Build anticipation with your children. Create little traditions. Count down the days. Decorate. Celebrate loudly and happily.
Let them grow up knowing that Eid is special. That it’s something to look forward to. That it belongs to them and that it’s a special time of year around the world.
Why is Eid Al-Adha so important?
Eid Al-Adha comes after the Day of ‘Arafah, which is the most significant day of Hajj. This is the day when Allah perfected His religion and approved Islam as a way of life for Muslims.
Muslims around the world offer a sacrifice in remembrance of the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). It symbolises obedience, trust, and complete submission to Allah, even when the test is difficult. This act reminds us that faith is lived through surrender, and that true strength lies in choosing Allah above all else.
Islamic Habit of the Month: Gratitude by default.
Start making this a regular dua in your life: gratitude in every situation.
When something beautiful happens, say Alhamdulillah.
When something doesn’t go as planned, still say Alhamdulillah.
Remind yourself and your children. Everything is either a blessing… or a redirection. And everything unfolds according to Allah’s perfect plan.
Dua for Gratitude:
Transliteration: Rabbi awzi’nee an ashkura ni’mataka allatee an’amta ‘alayya wa’ala walidayya wa an a’mala salihan tardaahu wa adkhilnee birahmatika fee ‘ibadika as-saliheen.
Translation: “My Lord! Enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness of which You approve, and admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants.”
